Design by Contract: costruire software robusto con il Contract-First Development

Chrome dev tools - a powerhouse of accessibility testing

When it comes to testing for accessibility of our web apps, most of us would have used Chrome Lighthouse to generate a report and use the results to improve the accessibility of our web apps. However, that is not the only way to test for accessibility, and those tests can only detect a subset of issues. Do you know, there are many other ways in which we can test for accessibility using those same dev tools? In this talk, we will delve beyond the conventional use of Chrome Lighthouse and uncover several alternative methods within the developer tools to test web accessibility. We will explore techniques such as inspecting the accessibility tree, gaining insights into ARIA attributes, emulating various vision disabilities, and more. So, join me in this session, where we will unlock the potential of dev tools to unveil a diverse range of accessibility issues. Let's all learn together and improve how we test for web accessibility, and make the web inclusive for all our users.

Divide and Conquer: Building Reliable Text-to-SQL Pipelines

Developing a dependable Text-to-SQL application using LLMs presents several practical challenges, from schema alignment and ambiguity handling to error recovery and user experience. While end-to-end approaches using a single LLM or agent may seem appealing, they often prove opaque and difficult to maintain in real-world scenarios. In this talk, I will share insights from my personal experience designing and implementing a modular Text-to-SQL system. Rather than relying on a monolithic agent, I adopted a task-specific approach by decomposing the problem into distinct stages. To orchestrate this architecture, I used the Haystack framework, which enabled flexible composition of the pipeline and simplified experimentation. I will present code examples of the modular pipeline and a simple agent, discussing the trade-offs encountered and the reasoning behind key design decisions. This talk will provide a practical perspective on how modular design can lead to more reliable and maintainable LLM-based applications, grounded in real-world development experience.

Beyond Basic Monitoring: a comprehensive exploration of advanced Observability Methods

Modern applications demand robust monitoring, and this talk unveils advanced techniques to elevate your observability game. We'll explore powerful methods to enhance Logging and Tracing, like for example Structured Logging or Context Propagation between microservices, going beyond the basics to gain deeper insights into our application's behavior. But that's not all – we'll also dive into the power of Custom Metrics and Alerts, discovering the tools to proactively identify and respond to potential issues. The principles and tools proposed, applicable across various cloud environments, will be demonstrated using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as a practical example. Through real-world examples from the GCP Console, featuring services like Cloud Trace and Cloud Logging, you'll learn how to effectively leverage these and other tools to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues proactively, and optimize your applications for maximum efficiency.

Stack: Flutter 3.22+, Dart FFI, Riverpod Whisper.cpp (C++) --> Dart Gemini Nano (Android System API) Gemini Pro (REST API JSON) Conditional fallback + prompt context chaining

From Manuals to Chatbot: Scaling an AI Agent for Ableton Live with Next.js & Vercel

I built this AI agent to ingest, process, and make searchable the entire Ableton Live manual, including contextual descriptions for all images. The core of this agent leverages a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, allowing it to answer user questions with remarkable accuracy. From a technical perspective, the application is a React/Next.js frontend powered by Vercel's AI SDK, with data persistence handled by Neon DB and Drizzle ORM. This full-stack JavaScript approach allowed for rapid development and deployment. I shared my app on a community of Ableton users. The engagement was huge. In just three days I had more than 50k views, 600 shares, 98 comments, 80% upvote and 800 questions answered.

Orchestrare Microfrontend Like a Pro

I didn’t know my Android native app could run on iOS - Compose Multiplatform in action!

What if you, as an Android developer, could suddenly develop for iOS without learning a new language or framework? This isn't a fantasy; it's the reality made possible by Compose Multiplatform.

Even libraries designed exclusively for Android, such as androidx.lifecycle, now work on iOS. Often right out of the box!
During this talk, we will explore the basics of Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP). Then, we will take a real native Android application, built entirely with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, and methodically migrate it to run on iOS, changing only a few lines of code.

Frontend On Stage: Mastering Performance with Svelte, Angular, React
